PARTICIPATION:
This event is designed for students in grades 3-6 and homeschoolers in the equivalent age group. Due to space limitations, we can only accept 50 students per grade level on a first-come, first-served basis. Participation is FREE! All donations will go directly to the Orange County Math Circle to fund future events.
EVENT INFORMATION:
The tournament consists of three rounds-- sprint, target, and team relay.
-
The sprint round involves a short 40 minute interval to answer 30 questions; each correct answer will be worth one point. The sprint is aimed at testing a student's problem solving speed.
-
The target round consists of fewer but more challenging problems aimed at testing a student's depth in mathematics. There will be 24 minutes given to answer 8 questions; each correct answer will be allotted two points.
-
The team relay round offers pure fun and engages students in group thinking. This round will be held outdoors and consists of a number of activities to test mathematical concepts. No points here, just candy for right answers. School teams are welcome and individual students will be assigned to teams by the event organizer.
AWARDS:
Every student participating in the event will receive a certificate of recognition. The top 6 students in every grade (the students with the highest scores for their grade level) will receive trophies or medals. The winning teams in the relay competition will receive a bucket of candy to be divided amongst the group members.
